Gimme that Ol’ Time Religion

Some holy music for Sunday, a mass and some motets by French Baroque composer Charpentier as performed by Jordi Savall and Le Concert des Nations

Charpentier was featured back in the early days of this blog for his “biblical tragedy” David et Jonathas when it was streaming online.  Now NY residents have a chance to see this production in person at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, performed by William Christie’s early music ensemble Les Arts Florissants.  There are four performances starting Wednesday, April 17th, with tickets starting at $30.

I saw Les Arts Florissants at BAM performing Lully‘s Atys a few years ago (as seen below), and it was pretty great, so act fast!
